This morning's kai and kāwhe is bought to you courtesy of #coffeeonqueen #coffeeonqueenrichmond and what beautiful kai it was. The kāwhe and frappe was really ka pai, too. I thought Kāwhe on Queen Richmond was just a kāwhe cafe with cabinet kai (& a beautiful, mouth-watering cabinet it was), but noooooo, it also has a great breakfast and lunch menu too. Service was excellent, the atmosphere was pleasant, ka pai background music, hum of quiet conversations, lot's of people in and out. Certainly, the place to be for your kāwhe and kai needs for the day.

When the sun is shining, go out for breakfast! This is a motto I have lived my life by, and it never seems to put me wrong! While cycling around the area, my wife and I felt a little peckish, so decided to pop into one of the many cafes in Richmond. We had never been to this particular spot before, and it looked busy. There were also a few seats available in the outdoor dining space at the rear of the cafe. Sold! Entering the cafe, we placed our order at the counter. Coffees (of course!), French toast with bacon, bananas and maple syrup, and Bacon and eggs on sour dough. There was also a large array of fresh and delicious looking food in the cabinet, but we had our minds made up!! First came the coffee, and this was delivered to our table by a friendly young school aged man, obviously working to make some money over the weekend. The coffee was good and was a great way to start the meal. We did not have to wait long for the food, and given how busy the cafe was, this was great to see and describes a well run kitchen. The French Toast was nice and crisp, covered in bacon and bananas. A couple of minor criticisms here, the bacon could have been a bit crisper, but I did like how it was chopped up, making it easier to portion and jam into my mouth! Also a bit more syrup would have been nice, perhaps not on the plate but in a small jar so that I could pour it on if needed. These are only minor issues and definitely personal preference. The eggs were fried nicely, with runny, rich yolks. Again, the bacon was chopped up, and could have been a little crispier. All in all, a good breakfast, wonderful friendly service which felt genuinely family orientated. The outdoor dining area was the star of the morning, and we will definitely be back!
